About the Chamber - Newsletters
June 2000

From the President...

Everyone is gearing up for a busy summer. Growth is happening in all areas of our Island's existence. Your Chamber is going through changes also and we, the Board, are very excited about are progress this year. The "organizational" and "house keeping" duties are just about completed. The new, proposed, By-Laws will be available in July, in the Chamber office, for members to review and comments will be appreciated.

We are very excited about our new Direct Debbie Tate. Debbie is working on membership benefits and developing a packet for new members. Any ideas or requests for what you would like to see in that packet would help make the essential part of your membership in the Chamber a reality. Weo would also like you, the Chamber members, to tell us what you want from your Chamber. A survey is planned for the fall, after the summer craziness is calmed. What type of projects? Give us suggestions on dues and fee structures, workshops and seminar ides and ides for speakers or programs for the monthly mixers. Please be a positive part of the organization you have to join. Dont just criticize - suggest. Above all - make a conscious decision to "GET INVOLVED", in some way. The opportunities are limitless. We look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as new ones at the June 13th Mixer a Friday's Historical Inn!

Have a great summer- business wise as well as personal. Don't work so hard that you forget to take time to enjoy the beauty that is our Island. That is why we are here.

-Kathy Johnson

Volunteer program needs more volunteers

Debbie Tate, San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce Director, is setting up a volunteer program whereby volunteers will give up several hours of their time working in the office or stocking brochure racks. Currently, four volunteers have stepped up to the task but about 4 more are needed. These volunteers will enable the Chamber Office to be on a full time basis, with the goal to be open on a full time basis, with goal to be open 5 days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Web Site Policy

The goal of the Chamber of Commerce web site is to provide current and useful information to people interested in visting or doing business on San Juan Island. The sight is user friendly and was designed to give every member an even playing field for an often busy and competitive business climate. We have established the following policy for clarity of benefits and procedures for each member.

1.) We offer our members an alphabetical listing as well as a listing within the category of their business specialty.
2.) If your business is diverse and falls under more than one category of service you may pay for additional listings with a hyperlink for $20.00 each.
3.) All requests for updates must be submitted to the chamber office. They will be forwarded to our web master and updates will be made at renewal time, the first quarter of the year, unless major changes occur during the year, such as a change of address, phone number, or business name.

Your membership is important to the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce and we hope we are serving your needs well.
