About the Chamber - Chamber Chatter
April 2000
This month our Chamber Mixer is in the new high school
commons. Superintendent Steve Enoch will be our
speaker and we will tour the new facilities.
Our schools are a very vital part of our community and
they serve us in many more ways than just educating
our young people, We have excellent programs and
opportunities for all ages in which to be involved. We
use those facilities for Island Rec programs, Power
Squadron classes, meetings, seminars, etc.
The numerous athletic events offer spectator
opportunities at a very minimal cost and many are
free. Springtime offers softball and baseball, tennis,
golf and, next season when the track is completed,
home track meets. The next sunny afternoon when you
need a change of pace, stop by the girl's game or the
boy's field, watch the tennis team in action or check
out the course for the golf team.
We are all asked for donations to help our youth
programs, but what is just as important, or in many
ways, more important, is physical support! Being
there when you can. This community is fortunate to
have an excellent drama department and our school's
music accomplishments are outstanding. Most concerts
are free to the public and are well worth your time.
We have lights on our football field which will allow
walkers, joggers and runners a lighted location to "do
their thing" in the evening.
Schools are an important part of our business
community. The school district is our largest
employer. This is again another example of the domino
effect that I mentioned last month. We all work hard
at running our businesses or working at our jobs or
careers. It is very important to take time out for a
little relaxation. Next time you need a few minutes
away, stop in and watch the future of our community,
our future business men and women -- participating in
an activity they enjoy!
