Brokeback Mountain - Artist Film Screening

Brokeback Mountain, presented by Natalie Woodlock
Alchemy Art Center Dome, 1255 Wold Rd
Alchemy will host a screening of Brokeback Mountain in the Dome, organized by visual artist Natalie Woodlock. At screenings of Ang Lee’s film Brokeback Mountain, artist Natalie Woodlock gives out handkerchiefs, and after the film she asks people to write down the scenes that made them cry. She will illustrate these scenes, publishing them in a screenprinted, hand-bound artists’ book.
Films deemed "tearjerkers" create ritual spaces for catharsis and release, transforming the cinema into a site of communal exchange between audience members. This project is a work of sentimental collaboration, highlighting the connective possibilities and transformative power of film. By illustrating the scenes from Brokeback Mountain that brought viewers to tears, the artist aims to memorialize the circle of sympathy present at the screenings in the pages of each book.
