On the anniversary of the Tokitae's death, the author shares her experiences as someone who knew Lolita or Tokitae, the whale kept for 53 at Miami Seaquarium.

An ethologist, behaviorist, author, naturalist, and rescuer, Marcia Davis has always been fascinated by animal behavior and conservation. She met Tokitae in 1988 at the Miami Seaquarium, where she started her zoological career spanning multiple zoos and rescue facilities. She taught positive reinforcement to new zookeepers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In the Spring of 2023 she was invited to join the team to bring her friend Tokitae home to the Salish Sea.
